COVID-19

Updated 10Jun2021

Check here for updates on the guidelines for use of the Harvard Cryo-EM Center and the Molecular EM Suite (MEMS).  If you need more information about how HMS is re-opening campus, please review this documentation.

MEMS:

  • Occupancy limitations will be removed, and the schedules for the negative stain bench, Vitrobot, CP3 and Carbon coater will no longer block the adjoining schedules.
  • Face shields are no longer required for training or when multiple people are in a microscope room.  Face masks are still required by the school.
  • Please continue to wear gloves when you enter the facility.
  • Everyone is expected to disinfect the high touch areas at the end of their session.  No disinfection is required at the beginning of a session.  Disinfection log sheets will now be part of the standard logbook.
  • No food or drinks in the facility.
  • Staff will be disinfecting high touch common areas.

Cryo-EM:

  • Occupancy limitations will be removed, and users are welcome to enter B04 to use the microscopes during their sessions starting June 21, 2021.
  • Face shields are no longer required for training or when multiple people are in the prep room.  Face masks are still required by the school.
  • Users will wear gloves when they enter the prep room.
  • Hand sanitizer is provided at each microscope and at the entrance to B04.
  • No food or drinks at the microscopes or in the prep room.
  • Hard-copies of grid inventories are still expected whenever grids are deposited in the storage dewar.
  • Do not bring a hard-drive for data transfer; that will continue to be a remote process.
  • Microscopes (SGM B04): Users will disinfect the mice, keyboard, and chair at the end of their session.
  • Sample prep room (SGM B02A): Everyone is expected to disinfect the areas they touch at the end of their session or sample drop-off/pick-up.  Disinfection log sheets will now be part of the standard logbook.
  • Staff will be disinfecting high touch common areas.

COVID-19 related projects will continue to follow the same review process as non-COVID-19 work.  Scheduling for COVID-19 related projects will be requested in PPMS and sessions will be approved by staff.  The length of these sessions will be limited to the microscope allotment for each consortium member institution.

External users (MGH, DFCI, BCH, etc.): The door to SGM is now accessible, so those with an HUID can request card access.  Once you are inside, your badge should work on all the normal access points you had previously.  Please let Remya know if you have an access problem.
